DESCRIPTION:12:00pm
Michael Stewart - Foto-Tech.com Presents HDR Multi-Image Photography
The traditional laws of photography no longer apply; see how computational photography extends exposure range, depth of field and angle of view. Take a closer look at HDR, Focus Stacking, and Image Stitching. Including simple Photoshop techniques and programs like Photomatix, Helicon Focus and PT Gui.

1:00pm
John Harrington - The Art Of the Deal
From the long-term value of client relationships, to real-world client interactions, The Art of the Deal will give photographers insights into how to be better at the business of photography. In this abbreviated version of John Harrington's longer-form presentation, he will discuss the finer points of client relationships, and dissect some of his own client interactions. What are the factors that go into determining a photographers' rate, and how a license gives both the client and the photographer clarity and peace of mind when it comes to image uses.

3:00pm
Max MacKenzie - The Truth Does Not Make a Good Story; That's Why We Have Art
Join Maxwell MacKenzie, award-winning architectural and fine-art photographer, author of " Abandonings ", " American Ruins ", and " Markings", for a brief look at how, over 40 years, he gradually learned to break free from reality and bend the truth a bit to make better photographs for his clients. As Richard Avedon said: " All photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth. "

4:00pm
Max Hirshfeld - iShot
Max has been shooting with his iPhone for a year or so and realized that it truly represents that old expression about never leaving home without a camera. "Sort of an extension of my brain, with decent eye/hand coordination practice thrown in" he comments.

5:00pm
Regis Lefebure - Light in the Fast Lane
The colorful drama of sports cars racing from day into night, night into day can easily make for compelling imagery. And the people involved, making it happen behind the wheel, in the pit boxes or behind the scenes, are crucial to the success or failure of the competing teams. Successful motorsports photography requires speed and precise timing, technical mastery of equipment and processing, and an anticipation of what's about to happen. Communicating visually with simple yet powerful images with impact is an element that can place the knowing photographer above others in the eyes of clients. This presentation will show the results of these successes (and failures) along with a discussion of how and why.

DESCRIPTION:Some of the earliest photographic processes produced positive images on plates of polished silver-clad copper, glass, and tin. Each image was unique-- the film negative was many decades away when daguerrotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes were all the rage. In this gallery talk/demonstration artist Phil Nesmith gives an overview of this rich period in photographic history, as well as a discussion on the modern resurgence of interest in and use of 19th century processes in contemporary art. While tintypes and other early photographic processes were thought by many to have died nearly a century ago, these media have had a renaissance in recent decades, including some of America's most famous contemporary artists, from Chuck Close to Virginia photographer Sally Mann. In addition to a lecture on historic processes and their modern applications, Nesmith will demonstrate the process of making wet collodion tintypes, a magical process that sheds light both on the history of photography and on contemporary art. DESCRIPTION:After all the practical workshops, after all the tech consultations, after all the seminars, after all the portfolio reviews …. now what? How does all of the information apply to YOUR process and YOUR work? How do the trends and climate of the art world affect you and your work? Do you know how to look at photographs—including your own—and CRITICALLY ascertain the direction and relevance of them? What is the difference between the work you want to do and the work you SHOULD do? How do you know which way to turn in order to grow as an artist?

Curator/writer/educator Tim B. Wride will guide you toward a fuller understanding of the art climate in which you are working and the social, economic, and creative pressures that are affecting your photography. Through a dynamic program of lectures, Q&A’s, and group interaction, we will explore the state of the market, the directions of creative interplay, and, most important, the necessity of critically and intensely LOOKING at the work you see as well as the work you make. For too many artists this is the most overlooked aspect of their tools and talents; for all artists, however, Critical looking is the most basic skill that must be developed in order to challenge and advance their art making ability.
